A message from Professor Woody Sullivan, one of the founders of SETI@home, about another global project, also sponsored by The Planetary Society and based on the Internet:
http://planetary.org/mars/earthdialBuild an "EarthDial" (a sundial with a Webcam on it) and join our global network that uniquely shows the passage of time around the world - a great combination of the old with the new. Since our launch two months ago (in conjunction with the sundials on NASA's Mars Rovers (http://redrovergoestomars.org/marsdial/), we now display nearly-live views of 17 sundials around the world. The concept of time and the changing sun's position over the globe are displayed in a pioneering way. EarthDials have been built by schools, individuals, and observatories. Right now we have 6 countries participating (Malaysia, Spain, Honduras, England, USA, and even the South Pole Research Station) with prospects in France, Norway, Latvia, Canada, and India, but we need many more EarthDials scattered around the world!
Check our site as to how you can build your own EarthDial and set up a Webcam - join us soon!
